Divot Tools PKB
Standard Options
1. Main Variations
-
Style
- Styles are differentiated by the additional attachment types that are added on to the plain divot took -- marker & clip.
-
Basic Divot Tool
- A flat divot tool able to be fashioned into a custom shape
-
Divot Tool with Marker
- A flat divot tool able to be fashioned into a custom shape
- Includes magnetized “cup” on the body where a marker is held in place. The cup is usually indented/debossed on one ⅓ to ⅔ of the base, so that the customer can use his/her thumb to “pop the marker out”
-
Divot Tool with Clip & Marker
- Same as the divot tool with marker, except the back-side includes a custom-shaped Full-3D-Cast clip that is used to clip the divot tool onto onto a golf bag, hat/cap visor, or pants pocket
2. Special Options
-
Metallic Platings/Finishes
- Every metal product needs a metallic finish type. In nearly all cases that should be a single finish. The only exception is for Two-Tone Metallic plating.
- On the mockup, should NOT use a pantone color code ; Should be written exactly as in Special Option
- Other in-house-taken photos can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1EIWHn-0P3FY1BIQy02WjFVdGM?usp=sharing

Shiny Chrome
-
Shiny Gunmetal
- Note: Gunmetal is one of two choices to for when the customer wants a “black” finish (the other is Black Paint). Gunmetal is a dark grey, but and reflects light in a way that makes it look brighter.

-
Black Paint
- Note: Black Paint is one of two choices to for when the customer wants a “black” finish (the other is Shiny Gunmetal). Black Paint is not as smoothly-metallic looking as gunmetal. It is like a coat of glossy black paint was added around the entire surface of the product.
-
Two Tone Metal Plating (Must Be Same Finish Type)
- Choosing shiny gold and shiny silver together makes for the best result. The other rule is that only “same-type” finishes can be chosen: (i.e. 2 shiny’s, 2 antique’s, 2 satin’s)
-
Divot Tool Design Colors
- The Divot Tool Design & Colors SO-Cat applies to the marker and the clip parts, if market and clip style is chosen, not just the tool part
-
Soft Enamel
- If you do NOT choose a “Soft Enamel” or a “Hard Enamel” option, then soft enamel will be the default. But if the customer opts for hard enamel, then you must choose the SO.
- Incompatible with no color metal products.
-
Hard Enamel
- Hard enamel is most know because the enamel colors and the walls are polished down to the same level, so the surface is smooth, unlike the emb/deb surface of soft enamel colors.
- For the same reason as polishing, there can only be 2 “levels” during the manufacturing process and enamel application, but after polished, there will only 1 level.
-
Laser Engraved
- Laser engraved can keep surface have smooth feel.
- This can be chosen in addition to soft/hard enamel colors, but it can NOT be applied to the enamel colored surfaces
-
Offset Printed with Epoxy Dome
- Offset printing allows for printing of unlimited colors, since it uses a CMYK printing process.
- Offest printing is be best way to reproduce images and photographes without the color-fill limitations of enamel colors.
- Epoxy dome is a must. It adds a glossy coating and smooth feel, and protects the printed design from scratches.
- Epoxy dome can not be paired with Silver or Chrome Metallic finish of any kind due to a chemical reaction during manufacturing process ; and can not be paired with Antique metallic finish of any kind, because the “blacking” process would tarnish the epoxy dome.
- Offset-Printing+Epoxy dome is incompatible with no-color style metal products.
- please pay attention to if add epoxy dome onto surface, the finish will be darker than normal finish.
-
Epoxy Coating (Colors or Clear)
- Most often paired with soft enamel designs, to keep the textured embossed/debossed look, but add a glossy coating and smooth feel.
-
Rhinestones
- Rhinestones are available in sizes from 1-5mm, and in common sizes like hexagon, and available in hundreds of colors. We can’t pantone match them, but we can close-match. The design needs to include a “socket” placement area for each rhinestone, so remember that they need the minimum 0.2mm “wall”.
- our default is round, other custom shape needs MOQ.
-
Bottle Opener
-
Die Struck (No Colors)
- Die struck will make logos/designs more vibrant than flat options but it different from 3D.
- Shiny finish must be last choice for die struck with no colors, or it will be very vague both front and backing, antique and matte finish are both better options, please see below example:
-
Marker Release Type
- This indicates what area of the “cup base” below the marker will be intented, similar to this fashion.
- If the customer doesn’t know, then ½ indented is the recommended choice.
- The magnet wlll be centered on the non-indented area.
- 1/2 Recessed Push Release
- 1/3 Recessed Push Release
-
2/3 Recessed Push Release
-
Backside Opening Release
- This allows customers to push the marker away from the backside, instead of “popping it up” from the frontside like the other recessed push releases.
- There will be no indentation pop up mechanism needed, so the base of the cup is flat.
- There will be 2 or more magnets positioned around the perimeter of the base of the cup
-
Flat Slide Release
- This leaves very small edges around the perimiter of the base, as small as 0.25 mm
- The customer can use their thumb to slide the marker away with great ease
- This is the least secure type of release, so the marker is most easy to fall off accidentally
- There will be no indentation pop up mechanism needed, so the base of the cup is flat.
- The magnet wlll be centered on flat base

- No AB order is needed to take avail of this offer — Cool!
- 1 Extra (Min 50 Qty per Marker Design)
- 2 Extra (Min 50 Qty per Marker Design)

3. Deviant Options
-
Requires SOURCING or SPECIAL OPTION request:
- Unlisted Sizes
- Unusual shape for marker or clip
- What else?
4. Sales Necessities (Both Invoice Setup & Notes)
- Divot tools in general are Full-3D-Cast-Metal items, so visual examples / photo examples will be very helpful to the designer
-
If there is a “Marker” included, then the divot tool part and marker part should each receive notes about the style/design that should be used
- If there is “Marker” then size and shape must be listed
-
If there is a “Clip” included, then the divot tool part and clip part should each receive notes about the style/design that should be used
- If there is “Clip” then size and shape must be listed
- If the customer chooses to make 1 or more “Extra Marker Designs” then, a description for each marker design should be described in invoice notes
- This is the “For Every Order” basic checklist specifically for this product (blue)
- Notes about what design element is embossed/debossed are included
- The “Height” and “Width” fields exactly match the size chosen in CRM, or are left blank
- The SO-Cat Metallic finish is accurate — for both keychain body and attachment Ring/Chain/Link
- There are notes about any pantone colors the customer wants (only from 100-7771)
5. Design Necessities (Both Mockup & AI)
- Design of each FRONT, BACK, and SIDE.
- When there is a divot tool AND marker AND/OR a clip, point out what part is the divot tool, and what part is the marker and clips, when there is a clip, need to mark the curvature of the clip accurate.
- 1 standalone design of the FRONT and BACK divot tool alone (with HxW brackets).
- When there is a marker and/or clip, 1 standalone design of the FRONT marker and/or clip alone (with HxW brackets).
- Size Measurement (Height x Width x Thickness of Each part with brackets)
- Style
- Divot tool design colors
-
If there is a marker
- Release Type
- Marker design colors
- All special options that are not explicitly depicted on the preview or design are pointed out
- The size and measurements match the invoice specifications exactly
- The special options match the invoice specifications exactly
- There is a standalone design for each design
- There are HxW brackets for each of the standalone designs
- The SO-Cat Metallic Finish is written exactly like the special option (not a pantone code)
- If there is an epoxy dome, then the coverage area of the epoxy dome should be demonstrated
- If there is a 3D mold, then the type of 3D effect needs to be demonstrated via 3D AI file, layers in the AI file, example photos, or cross-sections of the design
- If there is a special packaging/presentation, then it should be demonstrated
- No dye struck line is less than 0.2mm thick (and 0.15mm thick for laser engrave)
- No lettering is smaller than 2-3 mm tall
- There are 3 or less layers for dye struck designs
6. Design Guide & Mockup Tips
- None for now
-
Metallic Finish/Plating ;
- Should NOT use a pantone color code ;
- Should be written exactly as in Special Option
-
Pantone color swatch and Pantone color code ;
- Must be a color between 100-7771 ; We do not accept other colors (we only have pantone swatch books that go from 100-771 ;
- The color swatch used should accurately match the code used ; We can NOT change the swatch, but not change the code on the mockup ;
- Sales/CS should explain a common pain point — The pantone swatch on the mockup doesn’t exactly seem to match the pantone swatch on the technical mockup, and on the sample photo, and on the actual order when in hands. Even if throughout the entire process we use one SINGLE pantone color CODE, different monitors and different versions of Adobe Illustrator will display the color slightly differently. Could show customer what we mean by asking them to go to Pantone official website enter the same pantone color on their cell phone as on their computer to so “Oh, there is a difference”.
-
Line Thickness
- Debossed Lines 0.2 mm thick
- Embossed Lines 0.2 mm thick
- Debossed Lines with color fill 0.2 mm thick
- Embossed Lines with color fill 0.2 mm thick
- Walls (around and between colors) 0.2 mm thick
-
Text Sizes
- Debossed text can be 2-3 mm tall, but the lines of each letter must be at least 0.2 mm thick
- Embossed text can be 2-3 mm tall, but the lines of each letter must be at least 0.2 mm thick
-
Embossed/Debossed Levels
- Die Struck up to 3 levels
- Soft Enamels up to 3 levels
-
Hard Enamel
- Up to 2 levels before polishing (for purpose of color fill)
- Only 1 level after being polished flat
-
Two-Tone Metal Plating, . . .
- Can only be done with two “Antique” finishes or two “Satin” finished, but can NOT have 1 “Antique” and 1 “Satin”
- Can not do any of the “Glossy” or “Other” finishes
-
Neither Offset Printing nor Epoxy Dome can combine with, . . .
- Silver or Chrome (because the baking process of Epoxy will react with these metals)
- Any of the Antique finishes (because the antique “blacking” process will tarnish the epoxy)
